Dr Filitsa Sougioultzoglou studied at the Medical School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki receiving a state-sponsored scholarship, where she graduated with first-class honours. She then finished her internship as an internist specialist following further specialisation in diabetes and diabetes treatment in hospitals in Thessaloniki and Great Britain . She worked as an external medical associate at the Diabetes Clinic of Ippokratio Hospital of Thessaloniki for 8 years. She holds a Ph.D. with first-class honours in “Prevention of Diabetes Mellitus Type 1 in family members of diabetic patients” . In the UK, she received training in diabetes mellitus management, gestational diabetes (during pregnancy ) and nutritional support during pregnancy and lactation (breastfeeding) while completing her studies in Nutrition and Clinical Dietetics.
She participates in Greek and foreign conferences either contributing and submitting papers or as a speaker. She has given speeches on balanced diet and proper nutrition addressing the general public and school students.
She has extensive experience in diabetes management in its early stages, its complications (diabetic foot ulcers, nephropathy) and in providing diabetic patients – and in particular patients with gestational diabetes – with special training relating to eating habits.
She is particularly successful in dealing with obesity and nutrition-related
health problems in children, adolescents and seniors . She also provides nutrition guidelines to athletes –for instance with regard to weight gain-, to women in pregnancy and breastfeeding, to patients with high cholesterol, hypertension (high blood pressure), endocrine disorders), malignancies, intolerances.
She is married to the obstetrician, gynaecologist Angelos Vamvakas.
